The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Grand Budapest Hotel

This is one of the most fascinating films I have ever seen in my life. This is also the best
movie to show people who don't believe in Wes Anderson. It is clever and is shot and made
with so many surrealistic frames that it is beautiful. It feels like you are watching a painting.

The Story - 7.5/10

The story is told in 7 parts. The first part is the description of the writer of a memoir of his
experience at the Grand Budapest in 1968 (while in 1985). Where he meets the hotel's owner,
Zero Mustafa. Zero then tells the author of his beginnings at the hotel. He was a lobby boy
under the tutorage of Monsieur Gustave. monsieur Gustave is a concierge who ageing women
flock to him for his 'services'. Then one women who he courted passes away and pledges to him a priceless painting in her will. But this angers the rest of her family and her son get's him arrested
and i should stop there. This film gets so complicated as it goes on and if i was to type anymore.
It would spoil the movie.

The Characters - 8/10

Ray Fiennes plays Monsieur Gustave and he does a fantastic performance. This is completely
'his' movie. You love watching him and you love the character he plays, he is just an awesome
character. Also most of the comedy in this movie comes from him.

Tony Revolori (who i've never really heard of) plays Zero the lobby boy and he does a damn good job. He is like the boy who wants to do his job right and not get into any trouble of any kind. This
character is also sympathetic at one point in the film and is such a funny character.

The film also crams a lot of celebrity cameos in like

Jeff Goldblum

Willem Dafoe

Tilda Swinton

Edward Norton

Hell, even Bill Murray makes an appearance.

The Comedy - 6/10

Since this is essentially a comedy, I might as well comment on that. The film doesn't have that many
jokes, but the ones that it has are just gold. The timing is also the best I have ever seen in a movie.
But most of the jokes really aren't funny but they compensate for this with the delivery and the way they are timed.

So it's pretty clear that Wes Anderson knows how to make a beautiful and aesthetically pleasing film. If you love Ray Fiennes or Wes Anderson, than this is the film for you.

It is deserving of a rank of 8.5/10

The Grand Budapest Hotel is owned by American Empirical Pictures, Indian Paintbrush, Babelsberg Studio and TSG Entertainment and distributed by Fox Searchlight Productions.
