The BFG

The BFG

You know, I think this is this generation's Hook except for one difference. This one has 76% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Story - 8/10

Since this is a book to movie adaptation there are going to be some changes to make the story more flowing. But it is still faithful to the story. It follows orphan Sophie as she then sees the BFG and he carries her off to his hideout (in what I can guess is Svalbard). He has a hollowed out cave where he keeps all the wreckage of vehicles and goes around blowing dreams to children in cities.

It is simplistic but so was the book and it captured that part beautifully and kept the focus where it should be, on the relationship between Sophie and the BFG.

The Characters - 8/10

Sophie's actor (Ruby Barnhill) was one of the best child actor performances I have seen in a while, this is probably the year of child performances. I'm looking at you Jungle Book. She worked well with the green screen with Mark Rylane's performance so good job kid. She and Mark Rylance are the only people who carry this movie.

Mark Rylance is just the man in this movie. He plays the BFG (we all know what that stands for, Doom fans). The motion capture is more realistic than makeup. He brings the heart that I fondly remember from the original book. He has an entertaining speech impediment and is a loving character to watch.

The other horrible giants are quite one dimensional, thats all I am going to say.

The Family Aspects - 8/10

This is a perfect film for the whole family to watch. Like I said, this is this generation's Hook but the critics liked it. Hook is a good family film and this is an awesome family film. Also it will give your kids a very nice feeling of bonding and love. The visuals are also going to enthral kids with colourful visions.

Conclusion

This is a really awesome adaptation of the BFG book and it has fantastic characters. If also get this movie on Blu-Ray, you won't regret.

I am giving this movie an 8/10

I don't own these pictures. The BFG is owned by Amblin and Disney.
