The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book

This is something that really surprised me. I was going into this movie expecting it to be just a mess of horrible CGI and little believability from the child actor since he is in a complete set of green screens. But this is a very surprising movie, but I think that this is movie just for the new generation of people who want to get into this story. For me I knew the story and I wasn't sure if they were going to stay familiar to the way disney or go for the tone of the book. But this is still light hearted and does have a few dark things in it. But still I think this new adaptations of old classics should go dark, our audience has grown and evolved into a more mature group.

The Story - 9/10

I don't think that I can do the story since there is like I don't know, two of you that don't know. But I'll be nice. Mowgli is a 'man cub' that has lived in the jungle for years. But when the EVIL Shere Khan comes into the jungle and threatens his very life. He then has to go and find the man village for his safety. The story is very well portrayed in this film and that is an action deserving kudos.

The Characters - 8/10

Neel Sethi plays Mowgli. This is the first movie that this kid and he did a pretty impressive performance, since doing green screen along with people doing motion capture is not an easy thing to grasp at first. But sometimes he seems to be a more confused kid and not sure how to act. But aside from that, he is believable a lot of the time.

Ben Kinglsey plays Bahgeera the panther. He is fantastic as usual in his roles nowadays. I say nowadays because first he was typewriting a list of names and now he just plays grandpa mentorish roles like in Ender's Game (which is a really bad movie). But the CGI on him as well is astoundingly good and took some time and effort to put together.

Bill Murray plays Baloo the bear and I was surprised by this guy. I didn't think that he could play this role, i can imagine him playing a lazy role (Like a certain poorly animated cat) but not this type of role. But he really made it work and was a really entertaining role and had the same talent and comedy to expect from Bill Murray.

Idris Elba plays the tiger Shere Khan. He accentuates a very threatening presence while he is on screen, which is something that I never got from George Sanders in the original Jungle Book. His performance was more comedic than this one. He is also seems to have a more understandable reason to hate Mowgli and man than the original and the motion capture is also fantastic. So essentially this performance is much better than George Sanders'.

Also side note. Christopher Walken and Scarlett Johansson are in this movie, but are unfortunately not that focused on

The Adventure - 10/10

The adventure is very exhilarating in this film and very well done, whether it is running through a plain of grass then going to a mud avalanche while riding a water buffalo in the next scene. The climax of the movie is the highlight of the movie, it is scary and the edge of your seat inducing.
Also they did a thing that Disney movies in the past had done to 'take care' of their antagonists. Which I both give props for and also roll my eyes at. But this is still a really exciting movie.

So this is a pretty good adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling novel and is well worth the money to have at least one viewing. Also there is singing in this movie too. See you guys for the Andy Serkis one of this.

I'm going to give this movie a 8.5/10

I do not own these pictures. The Jungle Book is owned Walt Disney Pictures and Fairview Entertainment.
